Scan a barcode into your kitchen, or off your list
Barcode scanning in SeePantry is free and unlimited on every plan, including the free one, because it is the fastest honest way to keep an inventory current. Point the camera at a product and it is identified, categorised and given an expiration estimate. In the shop, the same scanner ticks items off your list instead.
Free to start. No account needed to try it.
Two modes, depending on where you are
At home, scanning adds the product to your kitchen with its name, brand and category filled in. In the aisle, the scanner runs continuously against your shopping list: a match gets checked off, an item already checked tells you so, and a product not on the list surfaces a card to add it. You can do a whole basket without leaving the camera.
When the barcode is not recognised
Unknown barcodes flash a message and the scanner stays open rather than dumping you back to a menu. You can enter the barcode manually, or just add the item by name with autocomplete.
Free forever, and deliberately so
AI scanning of receipts, fridge photos and voice has a monthly limit on the free plan because those calls cost money to run. Barcode lookup does not carry the same cost, so it is not rationed. An inventory app that meters its cheapest input method is optimising against itself.
Common questions
- Is there a free barcode scanner app for a pantry?
- SeePantry includes unlimited barcode scanning on the free plan, with no monthly cap. Scanning adds the product to your kitchen with category and expiration estimate filled in.
- Can I scan barcodes to check items off my shopping list?
- Yes. The list has a continuous scan mode that checks off matching items automatically and offers to add products that are not on the list yet, so you can work through a basket without putting the phone down.
- What if a product is not in the barcode database?
- The scanner stays open and you can enter the code manually or add the item by name. Nothing is lost and you do not have to restart the scan.
